Flashback To The 2014 Academy Awards

With the Academy Awards right around the corner, there is no better time to take a look back at some of the top styles of 2014. Last year’s Academy Awards saw some pretty versatile styles on the red carpet, and everything from long and luxurious styles, to classic up-do’s, to short trends were seen in abundance on Hollywood’s biggest stars of the night. With a little something for everyone, these are the styles that were most emulated by women in all types of formal occasions during the year 2014, and we expect no different with what are to be 2015’s top styles to come.

For long hair, glamorous curls were a big style trend that was seen on the 2014 Academy Awards red carpet, and no star represented this trend better than Sandra Bullock. Her soft wavy curls were accented with a slightly lighter brunette highlight, which gave incredible depth to her darker brunette hair, and a side styling gave the entire look an undoubtedly sophisticated and polished finish. With the bulk of her wavy curls cascading down one shoulder, and the front of her hair kept simple, it was just enough to enhance her overall look without taking away from it. A somewhat easy style to emulate, this is a look that works with a vast array of different face shapes and ages, making it a highly achievable look for the everyday woman at a formal occasion.

For medium to longer length hair, the up-do and finger waves both made separate splashes for two gorgeous, yet distinctly different, formal styles. Seen on both Amy Adams and Julia Roberts, up-do’s were done in both a polished and sleek fashion as well as a more care-free and relaxed fashion, and both types were on trend in their own unique way. For shorter to mid-length hair, Viola Davis sported a retro styled bob with finger waves throughout, providing that old Hollywood glamour will continue to live on in the heart of red carpet fashion!

For short styles, the main trend was volume, and we saw this on both Jennifer Lawrence and Portia De Rossi. What is really interesting about this look, and this celeb combination, is that it proves the sleek-yet-voluminous style is versatile to all age ranges and different face shapes, so it’s really one that anyone can give a try.

While these are just a few of the top styles we saw at the 2014 Academy Awards, there were a great deal of hits seen on the red carpet that evening. With the 2015 awards ceremony coming up just around the corner, we can’t wait to see what this year will have in store!
