Brown is a super-hot hair color trend for 2015, but with so many different shades of brown to work with, it can be tough to find the one that is a perfect match for your skin tone. Going too ashy can wash you out, and going too warm can clash with your skin, so making sure to pick the perfect brunette shade for your overall look is key in making this trend work for you.
If your natural skin tone is light, you’ll want to keep your brunette shade light as well, that is unless you were born with darker hair. For women who don’t have the natural light to dark combination, a shade of brown too dark can really look harsh against the face, and in these situations we often recommend not going much darker than a medium brown. Medium browns will often have warmer undertones, and highlights in gold or strawberry, and these work very well for lighter skin.
If your skin tone is of a more medium shade, and you’re working with more yellow under tones, you have quite a bit to work with when it comes to brown color. You’ll be able to go from caramel to a dark auburn without missing a beat, and you’ll be able to work with several different highlight shades as well. The one thing that is important to remember in these instances, however, is to keep things neutral, as you’ll want to make sure your skin is complemented instead of dragged down.
For those with dark skin tones, dark brown colors seem to work best, and going too light can create a clashing situation you should want to avoid. Browns that come close to almost black won’t wash you out, and we really recommend auburn or red highlights to the dark brown in order to incorporate some warmth.
