10 Great Tips for Blondes

  1. No matter how blonde you want to be, you have to make sure your base color works with your skin tone.
  2. Keep your base color (root color) within 2-3 shades of your natural color and get the lightest blonde tones from highlights, not the all over color.  By doing this, you will avoid unwanted brassiness.
  3.  Anytime you are lightening your natural color with a single process, your color will want to pull warm tones, so choose an ash or a neutral shade.  Though you are using an ash or neutral shade, you will find that it will still have golden tones in it.
  4. When you are doing your own color with a single process tint, you will only ever put it all over your entire head the first time.  After that, you will just do a root touch up.
  5. Doing an entire color change yourself can be overwhelming, try and keep your at-home color regimen simple. Leave the big jobs to a professional.
  6. If you feel that your color is looking a little yellow, use a purple shampoo.  It will tone the yellow just enough and make it look bright and fresh again.  Only use a purple shampoo though as needed or your hair can turn purple or gray.
  7. When you are covering gray with a single process, you can choose a shade that has golden tones in it.
  8. If you are more than 50% gray, choose a color one shade darker than your targeted color.
  9. If you want to be an all over platinum blonde, you should leave this to a professional.  Unless, you are more than 75% gray or you are a natural light blonde.  If you fall under this lucky category of having 75% natural gray or are a natural light blonde, you can choose a high lift blonde with an ash base and you will have a natural result.
  10. Blonde hair looks best when it’s healthy! So make sure you invest in a great shampoo and conditioner and trim your hair every 6-8 weeks.
